Belconnen’s
40th!
Celebrate with
Belconnen's 40 ‘greatest hits’
Lake Ginninderra was a dustbowl of construction activity
forty years ago…
Today the lake ripples with water, reflecting the peaceful
parkland surrounding its shores.
The first sod for Belconnen was officially turned at
the Aranda Playing Fields on 23 June 1966 from that
initial dump of dirt, Belconnen continues to develop
its natural environment and arts and cultural facilities.
To celebrate we would like to you to come up with a
‘Top 40’ a list of Belconnen's most celebrated
places and spaces. So why don’t you nominate your
favourite neighbourhood spot and see if it makes it
on to the ‘Top 40’. Obvious starters include
an afternoon picnic at John Knight Park, a visit to
Rotary's Trash and Treasure markets at Jamison, a ranger
guided walk run by Canberra Urban Parks and Places,
a walk to Ginninderra Falls, a bike ride along the Tour
de Creek, and a guided tour of the Australian Institute
of Sport.
Other ways you can celebrate this year:
Go to Belconnen's
Birthday Bash the 2006 Belconnen Community Festival.
The Festival will be held on 11 November 2005 and will
bring Benjamin Way and Margaret Timpson Park alive with
activities, performances and stalls for the whole family.
Be involved in a community arts project and help create
a mural to celebrate Belconnen’s community stories
and history.
When you live somewhere with so many attractions it’s
easy to put off visiting them. Make 2006 the year to
celebrate Belconnen and get out and see the ‘Top
40’
